For everyone
College is a long road with an uncertain outcome. What it does do, for certain, is open doors. It puts you in a position to compete with everybody else pursuing the job you want, and it gives you a chance to live your dreams. I don't mean pie-in-the-sky dreams. I mean the real ones. College trains your mind to think logically and critically, exposes you to ideas you'd never meet otherwise, and prepares you for life as a responsible adult.
My grandfather once told me that I would turn 30 one day, and I could do it with a degree or without one. It was up to me. That stuck with me, and I think it applies to everyone.
Once you're educated, nobody can take that away from you. What you understand is yours forever.
About math
I believe everyone is capable of math, and if you can do it in math, you can do it in any subject. It takes time and effort. It might not happen overnight, and I know of nobody who just gets it. There will be obstacles along the way, and sometimes the obstacle is you, without your even knowing it.
Everybody runs into obstacles. How you handle them is what counts, and as you work through them you build the coping skills you'll need your whole life.
On failure
I know of no successful person who didn't fail on the way to success. Failures are lessons. They show you what doesn't work, and they build character. They are also not fun, and they can make you want to quit.
Please don't. You'll turn 30 one day, and you can do it with a degree or without one.
I hope this was encouraging. It's the truth as I see it.
